    Italy’s volcano tally has risen to 29 following the discovery by scientists of a “new” volcano in the Tyrrhenian Sea off Calabria.

    The volcano, which has yet to be named, last erupted about 670,000 years ago and gives volcanologists no cause for concern, reports ANSA.

    Torrential rain in the South has left the small town of Maierato, in Vibo Valentia Province, Calabria, “like a ghost town”, Ansa reports. 300 residents were evacuated yesterday after a whole section of hillside broke off and came hurtling down onto the town and this morning the Mayor, Sergio Rizzo, took the decision to evacuate the rest of the town’s 2,300 residents.
